Robert Colvin

Robert is an English qualified Senior Associate and Solicitor-Advocate in Freshfields Global Projects Disputes Practice based in London. He has over ten years’ experience acting for clients in all forms of dispute resolution proceedings with a focus on the defence, energy, construction, engineering, and infrastructure sectors.


Robert sits as an arbitral tribunal secretary and is a CEDR Accredited Mediator. He regularly publishes thought leadership pieces, including in the Construction Law Journal on the topic of ‘Time and Delay across cultures’. He has lectured to the Society of Construction Law on disputes arising under the new iChemE Blue Book standard form. He is a contributing author to Sweet & Maxwell’s Dealing with Delay and Disruption on Construction Projects publication and has been recognised by the Major Projects Association as a “Rising Star”. In Freshfields’ GAR 100 report Robert is singled out for ‘quickly mastering technical issues’.


Alongside his arbitration practice, he is actively involved in Freshfields’ pro bono practice with a focus on critical issues of public law: in 2023 he was awarded the Wig & Pen Prize by the City of London Law Society and City of London Solicitor’s Company following a successful judicial review he (and a Freshfields team) brought to challenge the Home Office’s policy of housing unaccompanied children in hotels. Freshfields won the 2024 FT Innovative Lawyers in Pro Bono Award in Europe and the award for Outstanding Social Impact at the British Legal Awards 2024 for its role in bringing this case.
