Taner was called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn in 1996. For the first 10 years of his career, he practised as an independent barrister, where he gained extensive experience litigating in the courts of England and Wales, including appearances up to the Court of Appeal.
Taner then obtained a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from Queen Mary, University of London and then an MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at King’s College, London. He was subsequently invited back to lecture on the MSc which he has done since 2011.
Taner then joined the boutique law firm Corbett & Co as an employed barrister, where he spent 17 years and 7 months as counsel. His tenure at Corbett & Co continued through its merger with Howard Kennedy where he joined their partnership in March 2023. Building on his wealth of experience, Taner returned to the Bar in November 2024 to establish his own chambers, International Construction Chambers.
International construction barrister: Specialising in the resolution and avoidance of disputes arising out of international construction and engineering projects, particularly under the FIDIC forms. Taner’s practice has a global reach, he has represented international contractors and Employers in major infrastructure and construction projects including road, rail, water, sewerage, skyscrapers, hydro, power and wind sectors across Europe, Central Asia, Africa and South America.
Dispute Resolver: Taner passionately believes in dispute prevention and is skilled in facilitating the resolution of disputes. Taner sits as a DB Member, ICC and CIArb Arbitrator. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, on the FIDIC President’s List of Adjudicators, UK Adjudicators panel, TECBAR (UK) panel of Dispute Board Members, SCCA (Saudi Arabia), CCI (Romania), GIAC (Georgia) and CDRC (Serbia) panels of arbitrators. Taner has been appointed as a dispute resolver on 13 occasions and has issued 12 awards and 1 DAB decision. 11 of those awards were awards issued as a sole arbitrator, one as a panel of three co-arbitrator in an ICC arbitration and 1 as a co-DAB member.
World-Renowned Speaker: Taner is a FIDIC-certified trainer, FIDIC trainer of the Year 2020 delivered numerous seminars either live or on the FIDIC Academy platform since 2023. Delivered numerous FIDIC-accredited 2-day across 30+ countries over 15 years. He delivers FIDIC lectures annually on the King's MSc in Construction law and arbitration.
Published Author: As a Member of the FIDIC Dispute Avoidance & Adjudication Forum, Taner co-drafted FIDIC's first two Practice Notes on Dispute Avoidance and Appointment of DBs. Taner has contributed to chapters in two books edited by Prof. Renato Nazzini KC on the enforcement of DAB decisions: "Construction Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution Theory and Practice around the World" (2021) and "Transnational Construction Arbitration, Key themes in the resolution of construction disputes" (2018).
