Veronique Buehrlen KC has a wide-ranging arbitration practice, with a strong background in complex energy, and construction and engineering disputes (both on and offshore).
Her work spans high-stakes arbitration and judicial decision-making, having served as a Deputy High Court Judge in the Technology and Construction Court from 2017 to 2023. Veronique regularly sits as arbitrator and is known for her fair, thoughtful and measured approach, active case management and thorough preparation. She is appointed both as Chair and Tribunal Member in a broad spectrum of disputes, including energy, construction, insurance, aviation, joint ventures, sale of goods and commodities. Her appointments include both party and institutional nominations under ICC, LCIA, SIAC, QICCA and ad hoc rules.
Veronique has handled disputes arising from major global projects, including a €1 billion ICC arbitration following the suspension of the South Stream gas pipeline. She has sat on tribunals seated in London, Paris, Singapore, and across the Middle East, Africa and Europe, and has experience of both common law and civil law systems, notably in the Middle East. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and member of the ICC’s Commission on Arbitration and ADR, she also sits on the SIAC, TECBAR and other international arbitrator panels. Veronique has been shortlisted multiple times for “International Arbitration Silk of the Year” and “Arbitrator of the Year” awards. Her deep understanding of tribunal and court processes is matched by her clarity of thought and attention to detail, making her a trusted figure in the resolution of complex international disputes.
